i purchased a small frag of green monti cap. I've placed it half way down my 24" tank. It's a very weird shape (imagine it shaped like the #7), so when I glued it the bottom portion isn't fully lit by my lights, while the top half is facing the lights. Should I move it? Or will the reflection off the sand be enough for the bottom portion? I plan on moving it a bit closer to the top as it acclimates, and I know they're quite hardy. Just not quite sure what to do after some googling. THoughts? THanks in advance.

I have LED lighting. AI sol. Right now I'm acclimating the Monti Cap. It's halfway up my tank. the top half is facing up towards the light while hte bottom half is bent downward towards the sand. Is that ok/

Here's a photo of it

If the monti came from a tank with led lighting, then you would be ok, but if it came from a tank with something else, then you really need to acclimate it even slower than you would with mh or T5 lighting.
I'd think the lower 1/3 of the tank for 4-5 days and move it up a few inches for another 4-5 days, and so on untill you get it where you want it permanatly.

I know how to acclimate it. That wasn't my question. I wanted to know if the lower portion of Monti not being fully lit is an issue?

Your absolutely right. I didn't read the question right.

My advise is, if you think it might be a issue, then move it.

You're right. I think I'll pop it free tomm and move it to its new spot. Since I touched it to glue it, are they pretty hardy to touch? Don't want it dying on me.

I would leave it alone. So what if it grows over itself, happens all the time. If you do it right that thing should have grown so much in the next year or so that you wont tremember what it looked like when you droped it in anyway, If you dont do it right then moving it wont help either. By "right" i mean great water quality and stability. Moving doesnt help with the stability part.

Wont be long though before that lil coral down and to the left of your monti will be reaching out and sting it. You might just wanna move the rock the monti is on rather than re glueing the coral.

Yeah. I just put that acan frag there. Do acans stretch across the live rock and grow into the live rock?

+1 It will be fine if you have good water params. Montis are weeds when it comes to growing...they find a way and they do it fast. No worries about part not getting enough light

Thanks guys. I think ultimately I would like to move it as close to the middle of the tank as possible. I really hope it takes off! :-)
