Since I started to increase my nutrients everything has been looking great although, there are patches of unwanted pocillopora appearing that have been growing out of control. I can remove some of them by cutting and scraping where I have access but many patches are not easy to get to. I was thinking of putting thick calcium hydroxide paste on them but don't want to harm the other corals in the tank.
I would like to get them out without crunching them up and possibly making matters worse. Just killing them seems like a better solution.

Has anyone dealt with this type of situation in the past?

Turn off the flow pump and cover/squirt them with Kalkwasser mixed think. You can use a Syringe like from a Salifert Test kit for this. Wait an hour or two and you can turn the pumps back on once the kalk hardens. I would leave the return pump on as long as it does not stir up the kalk paste too much when you apply it. You should be able to write with it and it should keep it's shape when it comes out, or else it is too runny.

You can also just maul them with bone shears. You probably have some that you cannot see yet... they get everywhere.

This is why a lot of folks have a no Poci rule in their tanks.

Yes and still currently. I pulled most of the rock and tried to dig them out. After scrapping the rocks some have reappeared. Still fighting them as some show up again somewhere else that I must have missed. Most of it is gone except for a few some patches

I can definitely see why there's that no poci rule. They are tenacious. I thought I had removed every last speck of them; after I increased the nutrient level they have reappeared with a vengeance.
I'm concerned with mauling or crunching them up for fear that they could reseed themselves. I think the kalk paste is the way to go. Thanks for confirming my hunch! I used the paste in the past to get rid of unwanted polyps although, unlike the polyps, the policopora is very close to my corals.

I feel your pain. I am dealing with the same thing in my tank. I have given up on trying to eradicate them and now just try to manage them. I use kalk paste every few weeks on the small ones and use epoxy if any of the larger ones encroach on my corals. I tried using bone cutters as well and they just released thousands of polyps to proliferate even more. There will never be another pocillipora in any of my future tanks. Good luck with your battle.
