Green rough Alge on BB bottom. Shocking results!!

Ok that was total BS but web sites get me all the time with “shocking” photos or articles.
Ok i have a green alge film on the bottom of my BB. It’s on there good and takes a blade to scrape out. 3 weeks ago I swapped tanks via warranty so the aquarium part of the tank is brand new. Exact same sump, rocks, fish, corals. Aqua scape is a little diferent. No changes in feeding or lighting schedule or height. Do I need to treat or will it go away. My nitrates currently are 12-15 and they are usually 5-8. Phosphates are low as ever at .003. It’s only on the bottom glass and you can see it only grows where it’s getting light when the corals are swollen up you can see the green outline. Nothing seems to mind and thinking of letting it ride and it might burn itself out plus you can hardly see it with the blues are on, or has anyone had this and fixed it easily and gently. Peroxide? Sorry the tank looks gross with no lights on and just a flash you know how that is.

These green algae are not your enemy and are part of your tanks microflora and fauna working towards an equilibrium (which is exactly what you want to achieve). Trying to kill it with for example peroxide will only delay your route towards balance and maybe even have other unforeseen adverse effects on your aquariums biology.

Mine did the same, but because it was a totally new set up I left it for the snails. After about 4 months I got a paint scraper to it as the snails lost interest, probably because it got too thick. A few weeks after scraping, coralline took over.

It’s going to be impossible to avoid. The best prevention is the growth of coralline, which in itself is sort of a pest but more desirable. I really don’t sweat film algae too much. It is hard to scrape sometimes but that’s part of the game.
