Hey All,
Yup Im a noob, have a new tank about 5 months old now, Bare Bottom, I have this Thick Green Slime Monster growing in the lower flow areas, (See Pic) Its approx 1/16th inch think and is a bear to scrape off the glass and bottom. I got fed up with it and got 98% of if off the bottom as it seem to be growing more and more. It is on the reef saver rocks now as well. Running 2 AI Hydra 26s with the AB+ spectrum settings from the BRS vid. They ramp up from 7 to 8 and full AB+ from 8 to 6pm where they ramp down to off at about 8pm
Sal = 1.025
Phosphates = 0.02
Dkh = 9.0
Ca = 410
I am surprised at how think this is and how hard it is to get off the glass, you need a blade to do it. I took one small rock out and rinsed under fresh water and used a nylon brush to see how it hard it was to get off, its not to bad to get off. Pic #2 is that rock but flipped over.
Would love any feedback as to what the heck the Monster is and how to get rid of it off the rocks. Coals I have in there currently is Frog Spawn, Dunkins, Zenia and some Zoas.

Looks like macro algae of some sort. Is it one long continuous string?
Hi ScottR, Thanks for the reply, To be honest it feels like Kelp as it is thick and almost rubery. The pic of it in my hands it what I scrapped with a metal blade Scraper from the bottom. It is not stringy in a sense that if I pull apart it just break apart. I cannot suck it off the bottom with a siphon for a water change it needs a mechanical method to get it off.
Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my first light on this tank was the Fluval Sea 3.0, I have changed that one light to two Hydra 26s in Acclimation mode @ 50%. The Algae pretty sure started with the old light but did not seem as bad. I have the lights set to the BRS AB+ settings.
I have gone ahead and removed about 90% of it from the bare bottom. But it is on the rocks, with this pass? should Clean rocks in Tank water?? Looking for any suggestions.
thanks
Brian

I’d pull out and dump. This kind of macro algae (if it is), is easier to pull out compared to lots of other types. Some I collected at the beach. Not sure if it matches what you’ve got

That is Pretty Close, I was just told by a buddy, he thinks it is a Macro and it is b/c my Nitrates and Phosphates are too low. No3 is 0 and Phosphates are 0.02 Should I take my frags off the Rocks and nylon brush this off?

Nutrients won’t be the cause of it. However, higher nutrients will feed it.
