Hi guys any advice for my green star polyp? they are not opening since added from a 16 g to a 90 g tank, the thank has cycled, the levels are
Temp: 77 F
Ca: 410
Po4: 0
Ammonia and nitrates: 0

3 tangs, 2 clownfish, 1 damsel, 10 small hermits, 3 snails, 2 wrasses, 1 watchman goby, 1 big rock with 14 healthy open mushrooms, 1 big rock with clover corals open, one big rock with 180 palys oppen, and 1 smaller colony with only a few zoanthids open...

This gsp haven't opened in 2 to 4 weeks.

In my experience GSP is so weird. It was my first coral and it took a few days for it to open. It would open for a few hours, then close for a few hours and repeat. Once it opened though, it never extended out like it was in the LFS.

I never had an algae bloom in my tank, except for on that gsp frag specifically. It was literaly the only place in my tank that would grow algae. The GSP was grow but die from the center out at the same time.

Funny enough, it was the only animal that survived my tank crash. There are still a few polyps trying to cling on to life- but it's just overrun with algae, and bubble algae - no where else, just on that frag. ;Sour

I guess that GSP is taking one for the team.

I upgrade from a 90 gallon to a 200 gallon and it took a month for mine to open a little bit and even longer to get back the it was and still ever now and then it will complete close for a couple of days and then it is back.

What is your KH at? Also, try dipping the coral in case there are any pests.

I heard that they could be shedding a layer of old slime coat when they close up like that for a few days. Not sure how valid that is.

Slightly off topic, but... GSP can be troublesome. I give it away or throw it away. I'm finally rid of it now. If you do keep it, keep it as an island on the sand or on the glass. Keep it away from rocks & other corals! My 2¢.

By chance are you running GFO? If so, try stopping and see if your GSP open back up. Ever time I use GFO my GSP close up and stay closed until I discontinue use.

Mine stayed closed for months, not sure why. Then they would be open until the lights came on, now they are growing fast. Seem to love flow and nutrients

I didint run GFO at the start and they where angry or agravated since the change, i used GFO now and only a few polyps are showing, in the 16 g they where extending alot...in the last tank i didint even had a skimmer and they where happy and elongated as can be...

Maybe the water in the new tank is too clean? Maybe the flow isn't strong enough for it, or it doesn't like it.

How are you measuring phosphate? If it is truly close to zero, then you shouldn't be running GFO.

Zero nitrates and phosphates would be a problem.

Mines on its own seperate rock island and it stayed closed for a days, when it was first added. Since then it’s never closed up, it’s in high light and high flow area
