I recently bought a green star polyp mat that was not opening up. A thin layer of brown algae grew on the mat, and I used a large pipette to blast the algae off. I don't know if I irritated the GSP polyps underneath or not because the next morning I woke up to find each individual polyp covered with a brown bubble of slime they released. What happened and should I suck the slime away?

Sounds like something is growing on the coral. A picture might help answer the question.
