Hello,

I'm quite new to the saltwater aquarium hobby, after being in the freshwater hobby for a 8-ish years, I decided it's time to try out a small saltwater aquarium (60 liters, about 13 gallons)

After having cycled the tank for about a month, I decided it's time to put something in it, after testing Amonia, nitrates, DKH, and salinity.

Amonia being 0,1
Nitrates being 0,125
DKH, at roughly 11,6
And salinity around 1.026

I currently have it stocked with 1 goby, 1 shrimp, that shares a lair with the goby (forgot the name, my apologies) and a small hermit krab.

I placed my Green Star Polyp frag right under a powerhead, on a island, so that i can more easily trim it back.

Now for my question:
About 2 hours ago I placed it in the tank, it then opened a little bit, but after 15 minutes it started to close again, is this normal?

I also have a small mushroom frag, which appears to be shedding, so I'm very curious how that will look once it has finished shedding

What kind of lighting do you have, how much flow?

It's not unusual for GSP to close up for a few days randomly especially if it's acclimating to a new system.
What do you mean the mushroom is shedding?
How long have the corals been in the aquarium?

The corals have been in the system for 2.5hours now, I have about 20 blue LEDS, 20 white & 1 red LED, but may be getting a newer lighting system, it's the same lighting as I used on a freshwater tank before, so I'm not 100% sure of the specs anymore,

and off the head of the mushroom is coming this 'see-through' skin, I read on other forums that that's most likely shedding

A picture could be worth a thousand words ;)

I would say they are just acclimating to your system. I would look into reef specific lighting down the road, especially if you plan on keeping more corals.

Congrats on the new corals!

I definetly will look into reef specific lighting,

Here are two pictures:

Should I take the 2 of the white LEDS + the red out, so that the hue is more blue?
Although the pictures are much more red, then the aquarium actually is

That is a toadstool leather they tend to shed often...might want more flow...I would also suggest getting some reef lighting really cheap on ebay now a ays as I don' think a freshwaer plant light will support coral growth.

Alright, thank you! It does look like it's getting enough flow, the shedding layer seems to be moving quite nicely! ^^.

I'll get some new lighting in a day or two from my localshop!

What do you think about the GSP
