Got this yesterday looks different than most green star polyp I have seen. Has really bright neon green center. Also black shoots.

Any idea what it is?

Also have a white cocoon looking white thing in between some shoots. Tried to get a pic but hard. Any ideas should I try to remove it?

Looks to be green star polyps. Most likely sponge in between growing on the matt of the coral.

The thing is it has no purple mat like all the gsp I have seen. Is the sponge a issue if that is what it is?

Sponge won't be an issue. I have a large matt of GSP in our reef tank. The polyps just open around it.

Only the 'regular' GSP has a beautiful purple mat. The rest are mostly a mushy fleshtone tan.

Varieties I'm aware of,

Regular, beautiful purple mat.

Long tentacle regular, ugly tan mat but awesome movement.

Large center disk in several shades. Maybe whitish and tannish center disk? Vaguely remember a pinkish version?
Haven't seen these in a while locally. Can't remember the mat color but think it was mostly a boring tan.

Any pics of the mass in between the polyps?
