Hello All,

Fairly new 65G setup (6-8 weeks) and have added first set of coral to the tank. Some green star polyps and some miscellaneous zoas. All parameters are excellent. The tank also has a clean up crew (8 hermits, 6 snails) and a peppermint shrimp. The zoas look great and open up fully each day. The green stars however do not open fully during the day but seem to open fully after the light phases off. They do seem to be spreading already though, with a couple of millimeters of growth after a week and a half. They sit 1/3 from the bottom with low-med flow.

Thoughts?

Tank is only young yet mine is 4 months old had an algae bloom now just waiting it out go slow and take your time rushing in only causes more problems in the end lots of hair algae here

You didn’t mention any fish but I’m assuming you have some? If so could one of them be picking at it during the day making it only want to open at night when the fish are sleeping? Feel like I have seen people mention that with acros and certain species.

I only have CuC and just added first two fish - two clownfish. The behaviour was present before fish were added. Haven't noticed anyone picking at them at all. Still noticing they barely come out until the light dims at night.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Green star pilots are very Hardy Coral and if they are showing signs of being open at night they will eventually acclimate to your tank
