I was looking into getting some green star polyps for my tank and I was wondering if there was a way to control them and keep them on one or two rocks? Would it be possible to glue parts of it to the rock until it looks like it’s covered then just trim the edges when it grows away from it? I want a clean look like a rock covered where you can clearly see it’s a rock covered and not just the coral growing there. Thank you!

Mine so far stay in one spot as I have mushrooms surrounding it. One a single piece of rocks but sometimes really can’t control it.

GSP grows everywhere. Just keep it isolated. I regret having it spread so much it overwhelms everything so be careful. keep at least 6 inches away from anything. thc

NEVER HAD THIS STUFF GET AWAY ON ME

I think it depends on the strain. For 5 years I had a colony the size of a baseball. After everything else in the tank died aside from some red discos, the gsp started to stretch its legs. It now has 4 mini colonies the size of golf balls on a single rock and this occurred over another 5 years. I am about to get rid of all but 1 colony to make room for some spa. Hopefully when I frag them the polyps wont spread out through the current.

GSP is like grass. Put it where you want and trim when it gets too large. I have some isolated on a rock mainly cause I love the way it flows in the water. If you want to, glue some pieces to the back glass and let it grow into a GSP wall :)

That’s a good idea. That would be really cool to make it across the whole back of the tank.
