I’ve had this torch since September of 2020 but it has only grown from one head to two. I’m wondering if it’s in too much flow. There is two Mp40’s on a 4 foot 90 gallon tank. I have it running half the time where one is at 95% reef crest while the other is at 75%/15sec gyre the other half of the time is at 75%/15sec gyre anti sync. The torch has always stayed open. I know from reading different postings Torch, Frogspawn, hammers can actually take more flow then we think. The Torch is also in 140-200 Par area.

35PPT, 8Alk, 450Ca, 1400Mag, .15Po4, 1-5No3, 8.2Ph, 78Temp.

I would try turning it down, see how it likes it.

It does look too much to me, a Torch can look amazing in the flow, yours is getting blown around so much it’s distracting from appreciating it.

Yes, I say too much.
I like the pattern, but about 1/2 the speed.

I was going by what I have seen on R2R of SPS with 35-45x in tank flow.
Will the SPS be fine in the reduced flow? Everything else in the tank especially the SPS are growing great. I guess I could also see if there is a lower flow area in the tank.

you could try moving it to another location, I don’t think it needs a big change as it is open, my main aim would be to try and get it to look better, as atm it doesn’t look as good as a torch should IMO.
SPS like as much flow as you can give them, it’s a balancing act, as said moving it if there is an area with less flow may be the answer.

One thing I never asked when I’ve seen other flow rate post is how to calculate the flow rate when you have a gyre going. Like with the MP40s. When one is running the other one is off. Do you still add both together? I would think even though that one is off you still have residual water movement in the tank from it. Don’t know if that made since.

Not sure about that question, I would think you still add both together for your total.
As far as your torch question I think your flow is perfect right now.
It's very random, both left and right movement with some turbulent periods and then soft periods.
Your frogspawns and hammers like a lower flow than torches.
And your right, you want to keep as much flow as you can for your acro's.

check on the specs on the mp40, there is normally a rough idea of what 40% power on the pump is in gph in flow, I wouldn’t try and factor in the different modes as most average out to what ever percentage you set, as they increase and decrease in flow.

I know what the flow rates are. I was talking about the in tank flow rate people shoot for. Some people say you need 45x your tank volume for SPS. So I was asking if you have two MP40s on gyre with 15 second cycle do you count just the one pump that is running or do you count both even when the other turns off.

if you know the flow rates you will see the specs on the mp40 is for a single pump not a pair, I answered your question, if you have 2 mp40s you double the flow, I also addressed the flow for the different modes.

If you are still unsure maybe play around with this, it should make it clearer for you, As my last reply obviously didn’t help.

It still looks happy i wouldn't mess with it I've killed them trying to find that perfect flow better off just leaving it as it seems to like the flow
