I got a green wall hammer coral about 2 months ago. When I first got him I put him in the crevice of a rock and when I switched tanks I placed him on a ledge. Recently I had to move him because he was almost touching another hammer and the space was getting to crowded. I put him into the sand and dug him in about a half a inch.

I was wondering how these guys grow. I saw some pictures online and it looked like a maze of them. Will mine grow to be a maze, and is him being dug into the sand restricting his growth? Over the past 2 months he hasn't grown and I only see his tentacles start to grow more around the rock. Also will his rock start to get bigger and form a maze shape or do I have to put him near a rock?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Some pictures.

Being in the sand won't effect it one way or another. ime wall euphyllia take a looooooong time to grow.

Never had luck with wall hammers. Unlike the branching ones. They are a short term residents. I hated watching them just slowly die.

Dang. Ever since I put him in the sand he's been extending his tentacles even more. I thought they were long when I first moved him in. Well I'm just going to monitor his growth with this thread and if anyone else wants to see how fast they grow they can. Hopefully in a year he will be huge! Haha.

You could have left it next to the other hammer, mine don't mind touching each other at all. It looks happy where it is!

It’s been a long time, just seeing if it’s still alive and thriving.
