So I just got back from a 2 1/2 week vacation and my 25gallon reef tank is green. It was about 2 months old before we left and had been cycled. The nitrates were about 15 ppm before I left but I haven't gotten a chance to test them yet. I've decreased my lighting time 2 hours.

What do I do to get rid of the green water? Is there a certain species of phytoplankton that causes this? Is there a way I could put this water through a sieve and collect the phyto and start a culture?
