I recently noticed a film of algae on my glass. I cleaned it only to reappear an hour later, but now my water is just green. I done a few water changes and my levels are fine. At least I think so. I would like to note that I added 4 corals to the tank and I noticed this happening. I’m confused. The tank was doing fine and it’s been up and running for a few months. I recently switched from using declorinated tap water to rodi water. My tds is zero. I put in a Uv sterilizer today in hopes of clearing the water. The film is no longer an issue. It’s the water itself. I get impatient and I know that in this hobby you need patience. I’m ready to take it apart and start over. I’m at a loss as to what to do. Please help. The tank gets greenish brown more so in the evening. I am attaching pictures as well. Also, I started a refugium.

Looks like an algae bloom. A properly sized UV should clear it up but may take a bit.

Algae bloom. You’re right that your testing seems fine. Do water changes, cut down on your lighting and feed less.

I have a hydra 26. These are the setting I have on a 24 in high tank. 20 x 18. I lowered the time they are on and the ramp up time. I used to have them on 8 hrs.

thats good that you cut down the time. As another poster suggested, turn up your UV a little. Also that’s an insane amount of light for that tank. With that tank size you only need to be running like 50%-60%

A quick update to the tank. I put in a I’ve sterilizer and 3 days later, totally different tank. I’m posting pictures. One question though, my rock is green. Is that normal. I’ll put a picture of that as well. Thank you for the input from everyone. It looked so ugly and I was so disappointed when it started to get really bad.

Not really a bad thing. I’d probably just leave it, but I would scrape it off if it turns into hair algae.

Algae bloom, run that uv sterilizer , do a water change and get that fuge set up, it’s no big deal just make sure to be on top of it
