Greener Pastures (Amoo's 32g Rimless build)

  • @mdbannister @Rakie shows up and @Amoo 's tank goes all screwy. But seriously with amoo's humor and the back and forth it makes for some entertaining reads. The humor is great. Read amoo's other build. It is just as great as this one.

@Rakie you are going to be able to replenish the Great Barrier Reef.

The GBR can have all the frags of pink cadillac and homewrecker it wants. $5/hr diving fee for the glory of "Rakies Cove" of course.

Looks nice @Amoo ... when are you stocking it?

Thanks @TonapahNorth and welcome to Greener Pastures. The Chromis have been keeping the bacteria going and so far I've seen no signs of a mini cycle even. I dropped a frogspawn in there two days ago and it seems to be doing fine so tonight I moved the Black ice of my wife's out of my sump and over there. So far so good.

I fed the rocks for a bioload much higher then I was expecting for this tank so it comes as no surprise to me that I'm not seeing a cycle. I just need to keep my bacteria all alive in there, hence I have some things coming Friday from Diver's Den.

At this point I'm kind of in a piece the tank together while managing the bioload at the same time. Luckily Bio-Digest has never let me down yet and I run it religiously for 6 doses on every tank I setup.

In regards to stocking I really don't know what I want to do yet. I know I REALLY REALLY miss my sand in my 60, but will not put it back in there, so Gobys are definitely in. Let me check my order list, one sec:

ok I went with 4 nassarius and 4 dwarf blue hermits because there is so little buildup in the tank to this point.

I have 1 Mr Ugly coming (mandatory for me in every tank)

1 Longnose Hawkfish, a fish I have ALWAYS wanted but for some reason never gotten.

1 Barred Circus Goby.

This should put my bioload still slightly under what I was feeding the bin of rocks I was cycling. Well I still have to order an additional clown from Cultivated Reef, but I'm trying to decide still if I want to put a maroon pair in my 40G fuge in my 60G tank so I'm holding off.

I want to be VERY selective with this tank as my only other fish plan is maybe a Labout's Fairy Wrasse but I know he would eventually get to big and have to move tanks.

For Corals and what not I am going to be super selective. as my goal with this tank is to be able to maintain CA/Alk with Kalk so if I stock too many SPS it would blow that out of the water. So It will probably be more LPS heavy then SPS, but who knows.

Me too :( They're so cool but everyone says they require a larger tank than mine. Also that they can go rogue and may snap up little fish like gobies.

So shove acros in there already. Don't worry about any non-corals like LPS

When I added the hawkfish I had 3 tiny Chromis. I no longer have any Chromis. As a result Mr. Hawkfish went to the sump in my 60. I'll have some pictures and updates hopefully by the close of the weekend. Been super busy this week.

Yeah that sounds like why I never got one. I've got 3 delicious little gobies and always plan to add more 'cause they get along with each other really well. Sounds like a shoal of snacks for a hawkfish though.

Are you still picking up non-corals like LPS and zoas?

Well that is actually what I'm doing. I've got a few people who give me higher end corals to color up or generally just have a frag for emergency backup.
