Hello, im new to the site and the hobby. I have done plenty of D.I.Y stuff in the past and so building an aquarium system really appealed to me. So far i have a second hand 36 gallon bow front (by J And M aquatic i believe,) a new 10 gallon ugly little sump, aquarium lights (for show, not marine compatible it seems.) I still need to drill the MT, plumb the thing, get propper lights, and so on... the next equipment decision after plumbing is lights for sure. I have my eye on a 50 gallon capacity HOB skimmer for the sump but i hear nightmare stories about those things dumping tank water onto the floor.

Hey thanks for the warm welcome! I was just looking at the ice cap k2-50 in sump skimmer, it seems like good value but i wonder if that 70 gph can be adjusted, or it will just flow at the rate i have my sump tuned in to. Otherwise i feel like 70 gph is about twice the rate i should be at. And as for lights well im not too certain, i recognize it's a big buy and well worth some extra investment, but i hate to feel like im dumping all that extra cash into the security of seeing "reef lighting" typed into a product description.

30 inches long 15 "wide" and 21 deep. On a side note, a solid carpenters square has been indispensable during this process.

Welcome to R2R! Looks like you have done your research and progressing nicely. Slow and steady. As far as the skimmer, Most skimmers can be adjusted. I'd go with the in-sump just for the peace of mind. There are lots of options out there.
