Hello,

I'm so new to the hobby I haven't made a single purchase. I'm trying to do as much research as possible before getting the tank, but I think I'm going to go ahead and start curing MarcoRocks while I figure things out. I've been binge watching BRS how-to and tip videos in addition to reading R2R threads. Would welcome any suggestions or lessons learned from when you were starting out.

Thanks
Jen

Welcome to R2R!!!

For right now I would just focus on what you want your tank to look like. Tour some local fish stores and get an idea what species you like fish or coral (or both) etc. That way you can narrow down how big your tank needs are.

Its a journey for sure I first fell in love with the reef tank at Aquariums Unlimited in VA Beach and that was 2 years ago I knew I needed a large system to even come close to having that look in my fish room. I still haven't fully setup but I am getting close. Nothing happens fast in this hobby its work and then more work. Good to research because I don't think it is possible to know everything either.

Here is my build thread:

You made a great choice to research and learn as much as possible before buying stuff. It certainly helps with the setup and overall cost in my opinion. I wish I had researched more before really getting started or I would have avoided doing some things and I would have purchased some equipment much earlier in the process. Good Luck and Welcome!

Welcome to R2R! Just take your time and ask questions. Oh, and remember that while BRS is a good company and a good resource it still a store trying to sell stuff so always weigh what is said against your better judgement.

Welcome and RUN

Nah just kidding
I'm only 4 months in with a 30 gal and love my little world I made.
Challenges abound and much to learn.

Welcome to the salty side and the community Jen! I was on here for quite awhile researching and learning before taking the plunge. Best piece of advice is to go slow and not rush things. We all want that instant tank but rushing can lead to frustration and heartbreak. I look forward to seeing your setup when you get up and running. :-)
