Hello all!

I'm relatively new to the reefing, just in about 5 months. I'm currently running a NUVO 30 gallon long All In One system with matching stand from Innovative Marine. The light is an Aqamai LRM. I'm currently running a HYDOR ATO with the Innovative Marine hydrofill pump and matching ATO return bracket. I immediately upgraded to the IM Mighty Jet for the added GPH and feeding pause mode benefit. For extra flow I also added two IM spin nozzles and an Aqamai KPM powerhead. For heating I'm running two 100W Cobalt Neotherm submersible heaters set at 74 and 78 degrees in the event of one falling. In terms of filtration I have removed the stock filter socks in favor of two custom caddy baskets. One running intank filter floss, ferric oxide, and chemipure blue. The other caddy is running filter floss and has chaeto refuge with its own IM Chaeto Algae light. All controlled by a Neptune Apex controller.

I've only recently breached into the salt water aquaculture and of course later the reefing community due to beginning work in a Molecular Biology laboratory studying Oysters (Crassostrea Virginica specifically). Generally everything has went decently well barring the loss of a filefish (sucked into the overflow) and three homicidal/cannibalistic peppermint shrimp which had a thunderdome style fight to the death. Additionally, my pistol shrimp ate my cleaner shrimp! Currently tank inhabitants are: assorted snails, fighting conch, emerald crab, goby, tiger pistol shrimp, and one freshly added Tridacna clam.

I look forward to actively posting and hearing some insights from more experienced reefers!

Sound like a sweet setup. Now if you could just prove it with some awesome photos, because, well, we like photos... a lot!

I swear it's more interesting then it sounds Haha!!

It actually does sound interesting. Although I don't study anything at the molecular level, I do have several books on inverts from Spotte 1970) to Voshell (2007) and "Freshwater Mussels of Florida" (Williams et al., 2014) and have helped in oyster bed recovery projects.

Welcome to Reef2Reef Tony!

Did you happen to get any video of the peppermint shrimp Thunderdome fight? We love pictures and videos, and that would be awesome to see if you did? What questions are you investigating in the Oyster lab? It all sounds very interesting. Again, Welcome to Reef2Reef.
