Well after a few month of research I’ve decided to pull the trigger and ordered a hound(15-18”) It will be going into a 6ft round pond( I understand it will require something bigger and have a plan already in the works) The pond is located outside on my covered and enclosed lanai. I run a chiller and keep temps at 72.5(2*swing) I believe I have a fair understanding of there requirements but want to hear from people that have first hand knowledge of there care, behavior and special needs.

Any help would be appreciated.

I always keep this species below 70 f long term. They tend to be really hyper above that and just don’t do well.
Be sure the pond is covered or has jump boards.
Mazuri shark vits or other source of iodine is important.

Jay The cabinet I built around it has boards that extend 18” over the pond. Leaving a opening in the middle 42” square. And that opening is covered by double layered cargo mesh.. Jay will my bamboos and marbles be good at 70*.

Thank uou

If the cover is keeping bamboos inside, it should be o.k. for a smooth hound.

I'm not sure the lower temp limit for bamboos and coral cats. I've kept them long term at 74F, but I don't know their absolute lower limit.

Sorry - I can't really tell anything from a shark "in hand" like that. I see some redness around the mouth that shouldn't be there.

He states the redness is from the sand in his pond and will be fine. Here is another video from above.

The redness in sharks is sometimes of no consequence, but other times is a sign of a skin infection. I've had sharks that "blush" red for no real reason. I've also had them develop redness (petechia) that was serious and ultimately fatal
.
The shark is also a bit thin, but that's to be expected of a shark in the supply chain.

I once got a gray smooth hound that had a hole in its jaw from a hook, and it ended up fine.

. He’s giving me a 2 week warranty. He says the hook mark is healed. He’s had him for about two weeks and is eating

I think you are fine then with a two week warranty - few people stand behind their fish for that long!

Jay do you know if I can prazi the smooth hounds like I did Bamboos and marbles?

Also I was told hounds do not get flukes. Is this correct?
I’ve never had flukes on a smooth hound, but other sharks do get flukes. Ive used formalin on them, but not prazi. There isn’t any indication that prazi would harm them though.

Jay one more Question. I appreciate your time. I’m also receiving a few Cali round rays. Do you know if they can be treated with Prazi during acclimation. I don’t have a qt big enough to accommodate them. So there getting a bath for a few hrs.

They tolerate prazi just fine if you aerate well. However, you should avoid treating fish during or right after acclimation….the fish are very stressed at that point and can react poorly. I always wait 72 hours after shipping before treating any new fish.
