Grinding stainless steel rod

I am looking to grind a 1mm out of this rod to make a diy hanging kit for a metal halide fixture. Any idea how to thin this pipe by 1mm (pipe is 6.5mm) along the short end of the rod.

A cutoff wheel is a thin disc made of a hard abrasive meant for cutting steel with an angle grinder. This would absolutely work, but would require some finesse to not take off too much.

You could absolutely use a metal file. How long it would take would largely depend on the coarseness of the file teeth and how much pressure you apply. Shouldn’t take too long.

An alternative solution is a dremel tool, with either a burr or sanding wheel. Would take it down faster than a file, but not as fast as a grinder.
