Grooves on bulkhead gasket.

What side do the grooves go forwards on a bulkhead gasket? Up agains the flat part of the bulkhead? Or up agains the glass?

I've wondered about this too. I suspect the answer is--it doesn't really matter. But I put the grooves against the glass.
