Without going over the whole history of my secondhand tank w/fish I am suddenly haunted by something the former owner said whilst turning a rock from the tank over in her hands, "Yea, there's somebody living in there, but it doesn't bother anything."
My response: "What is it?"
Her reply: "Dunno, I wouldn't worry about it."

uHhm..I've watched enough youtube videos to be friggin' terrified. Ya see, I don't like gross, slimy, Ookie (that's a word right?) things, and if there's something like that living in my rock, I want it OUT! I mean, I'm sick to my stomach just typing this out and my imagination running wild.

I know, I know, I need to turn out all the lights and try to catch it out, but .... dang. I can eat a sandwich while I'm assisting with an abscess surgery on a cat, but I sure can't do this! If I see it I might scream and wake up my husband and the dogs. I gotta...but ... *shudder & squeal*. OH please don't let it be a bris...t...l...no, I can't even type it out. *thud*

Two tips to help:

99.9% of the inhabitants of your new reef are ookie. Isn't that a prerequisite?

Worry is a misuse of imagination! Put that brain energy to better use! :) :) :)

Haha! Well hate to be the barer of bad news hun(dont wry, i get creeped out too) your going to have to find the critter and pull her out. But first! Get a picture of it so you can get an id to make life easy. If it indeed is bristle worms, there most likely(99 percent) more of them. Theres traps they sell for like 5 bucks, looks like a pen but with the tip turned inside with some food in the tube. Then you can get your husband to pull it out lol

Well, yea. But they're not long, skinny and look like they want to eat my face! It's ok to be itty bitty bugs and good stuff for my tank...but not THAT! LOL
Good point about worry. Husband tells me the same thing all the time. I'm a champion worrier.

M-m-m-more? Okay wait, my tank isn't very big and I've got nothing in it besides 3 fish, sand and some rock. I'll get the bugger, but I'm gonna be a total wuss about it.:eek::eek::eek:

Lol noway all the worms and such are real creepy. Just dont touch them loll, you can prob get away with sinking a cup with some food in it. And eventually a few will windup going into it. Then your on your own lol!

I would get that photo @Sabellafella mentioned earlier....save the worry for after you get a positive ID.

There are very few critters that actually need to be removed. Mantis shrimp and bobbit worms are two of them and both are pretty rare.

Bristleworms are not on the list. Creepy and as much fun to hug as a porcupine, yes – but really just good members of the cleanup crew.

This made me crack up! Abscess surgeries are the best! Sometimes we would place bets on if there were any little critters in there if it was already draining. I'm with you though. I hate the look of bristleworms. I leave mine in my tank though because they're a good part of my CUC

Funny thread!
