Saw this at a LFS labeled as a “blue and gold grouper”.

Is this a Epinephelus flavocaeruleus?

I'm by no means any kind of grouper expert, buy it looks closer to a yellow grouper than the images of blue and yellow groupers that I've found online.
Yes, the head / body shape doesn't look to be Epinephelus flavocaeruleus, but I could see how it they could've misidentified it because of the yellow fins. Never seen a grouper locally like this before.

So... did it make its way into your tank?

Not yet but I am very tempted to go back tomorrow to pick it up. I was just trying to be responsible and was hoping to get a proper ID before purchasing .

That is an immature Cephalopholia cyanostigma grouper. It is totally different in coloration as it matures.
tysm for the proper ID! Disappointing that it doesn’t keep its yellow finnage. Are they common in the hobby? First time I’ve see one.
