Grow light for coral?

my friend no longer is using this fixture and gave it to me. He grew plants with it and not coral :-) can I just use a bulb for coral on this and grow coral? Sorry halide newb here :p Its a sunlight supply halide fixture 250watt.

lol.

Just check the temperature of the lamps, but i'm thinking that light will be too yellow for the coral's (or your) tastes. Otherwise i'd see no problem with using it, its still a MH.
 
Oh sorry Nathan, i didn't read your post completely,
I believe you can use a different bulb as long as it fits the ballast capability (use a 150 watt bulb on a ballast rated for 150 watt), i'd confirm that first tho.

also just a heads up, that thing is going to run hot unless you have a fan...i had similar reflector and it got quite hot with no air cooling.

haha ... Might have been my manager at work today said come over and get a fish tank for free and then he asked if I want this light. I said yupppp :D I feel like a made out like a bandit today with a free 29g tank and halide. Guess I'll change the bulb and throw it over my frag tank build.i'm working on

Thanks for the reply probably going to mod it and install a fan to pull heat out and have a duct out the window.

hahaha yup it may have been used for other things but it be used for coral for me. im lucky in the sense my fish room window faces the woods and every one knows i am a fish person around here. lol my windows all ready glow bright blue light from my leds at night time and can see it driving by on the road lol.
