Grow out contest

I disagree entirely. Set a due date and etch it in stone. There's nothing saying you cant submit your picture before the end of the month. I believe its spelled out that the picture is due before the end of the month - there is your grace period. The growth difference between Jan 29 and Jan 31 is negligible for contest purposes. Ambiguity in a grow out contest usually does not end well ;)

That's practically the same thing I'm saying but saying it's okay to submit early. What I'm saying is the rule shouldn't be the picture must be submitted on a certain date and only on that date. There needs to be a guide on how soon you submit the pic then. If the pic is due on the 31st each month, we can't have someone submitting a pic two weeks early.

I'm in. Currently on vacation so Wi-Fi is spotty but 8 don't want to miss my chance. Any way to pre pay? If so, please pm me

I guess I never technically said I was in on the 40th post but I would like to participate if there is room.

There is no harm in turning in a picture Jan 15 for your January post - it’s the picture that keeps you in the contest to the end. Granted it’s putting you at a disadvantage in the end, since it could grow more, but if your traveling for two weeks and it keeps you in the running, I don’t see an issue.

We should have a few day grace period of when the photo needs to be submitted each month. Some people may be super busy the day it needs to be submitted and giving them a few days to get the photo submitted seems fair. Something like the photo needs submitted between the 1st and 3rd of each month.
I think as long as you submit 1 photo per calander month you are fine. So if you think you'll be busy the last few days, submit it a few days early. As long as you submit at any point during the month you'll still be in, although closer to the end of the month makes more sense as far as progress pictures.

The only month that you'll obviously want to submit at the end is the last month. Although I don't think a few days growth will make a big difference in the results. :)

If someone wants to, they can submit early. We'd prefer to have them close to the end of the month but if they won't have time then we'd rather have them submit early to stay in the contest. I will adjust the wording in the rules to make this clearer.

Pm @Battlecorals, we are officially going to start collecting payments once the frags are cut, and payment will be due by the 31st of December to lock on your spot.

I am so sorry if I missed you, I'll add you to the list.

I agree with this, as long as you update once a month with a ruler you are fine. Obviously for the final picture you will want it close to the end of the month.

Adam gave out some PC rainbow for a grow out challenge a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly he told them that he didn't have an issue doing it but said the challenges never last. Unfortunately he was right and seemed after a few months there was only a couple people still doing updates.

Make it a contract type deal. You stop updates, you get a bill for the coral. Keeps everyone honest.

Unless you kill the coral, I guess.

We are already paying for the coral, shipping and a prize pool. If you stop the updates you just lose out on the prize pool money.

We are only paying a quarter of the price for the coral which I believe Rakie's point was.

Sort of, @bubbaque -- @alten78 has pinpointed my concern. Adam is a pretty good guy, I'd hate for him to lose some income. Besides, if this works we may be able to finagle him into some really high end coral growout comps later :D

Once bitten, twice shy, and all that.

I also think $100 is a little high, but like 50-75 would be perfect.

I agree in theory, but in reality, shipping alone is $40. Usually the constellation prize is getting a sweet coral, since literally 99% of you guys will be losing, I don't think a $50 digitata will feel sweet afterwards :D

But again, as a broke **** student, I totally feel ya haha

OK, so I have got a solid 40 frags cut for sure. Can accommodate 40 contestants no problem. We will coordinate shipping after the new year. I am super flexible so I'll work around your schedules for sure. I'd truly prefer not to ship all 40 in the same day however.

Either way, Once payment has been completed please let me know what day is best for you, and I'll go ahead and lock you in for then. If you'd like to add anything to the order, you are more than welcome to do so. I'll work with you on pricing for any add ons as well.

I think the best way to handle payment, is to have you guys PM me here only, to keep things organized, and I'll invoice you either through PayPal, or your email address, where you can use any credit card you like.

So again you will have contact me with your payment info here on reef2reef, and I'll invoice you individually.

Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns at all with any of this.

Thanks again

Adam
