So my LFS had a good price on these two maroons that had been there "for a few months" Both of them looked really happy, healthy, funny and acclimated well, like most clownfish. What I didnt realize is that its hard to grow out two maroons without fights.

Now that I know that, what behavior should I look for?

They both do quite a bit of "picking" at each others ribs but no fin nipping, ripping or anything like that.

Any experts with maroons out there?

right now both maroons are about 2.5"

Ok just as long as it isn't impossible. So far both are very healthy I just don't want one of them to be subject to death.

how big are they atm? I'm hoping that they haven't both turned female yet. if they're still both juvi's, they should work things out. good luck.

I bought 2 from my lfs and they are doing great. At first there was some nipping but it did not last long at all. Good luck and things should be fine for you. Keep us updated on your 2 new lil buddies!!! Congrats!

My male goldbar maroon will sometimes push into the female but it's just entertaining. As long as you're not seeing any damage to them you should be fine. From what I hear the female or dominant one will kill the other pretty quickly if they do not like them. On the first bar by the head you'll see a spur of red on the female (if one has already changed). If you ever have to move them make sure if you use a net to not tear/rip it. Not an expert but just what I've experienced with my pair so far. Sounds like everything is going well for you.

well I came home from work and they are on opposite sides of the tank (60 cube) and there has officially been fin nipping. I watched for about an hour and didn't see any aggressive behavior at all which is weird. they seem to avoid each other. I fed them and turned the lights out early on them.

I guess being transferred from the LFS tank to my tank flipped the hormone switch.

if one looks worse tomorrow looks like ill be taking it out to put in sump for a bit

They will fight, until one gets bigger and becomes dominant, and the female. Then the fighting will lessen. I saw a pair of 6" maroons at an lfs, the female went right up and attacked the glass when I mived too close, so they can get big and mean.

I opted away from sump and put it in a breeder net. its right fin is bigger then the left so it can't swim very good. I dont feel like it is going to die or anything(I hope) just not very mobile.

a little OT but Marvin I noticed on your site you kept your BTA's in clay pots.... do you think that helps them or whats the advantage to that?
