So, some of my favorite fish include panther groupers, spotted sweetlips and the hippo tang. I know they all I need 150+ gallon tanks when they are old, but what are your opinions are growing these three fish in a 90 gallon 4 foot tank? Besides, the sweetlips, I 100% prefer the juvenile version any ways. My LFS has told me they will let me trade in my big one for a younger one. They also told me they have had their hippo in a 90 for 5 years and he is still not too big. How long will the sweetlips and grouper take to outgrow the tank? Thanks

This is a tough question with lots of answers.
A Sweetlips and Panther grouper can and will outgrow a 90 gallon in very short order. Can the be kept in a 90 short term? Sure... SHOULD they be??? Tougher question.
I am not a subscriber to the Tang (or any other fish) police, but.. As long as the fish is being kept thriving, I say go for it. My moral dilemma comes with what happens when you trade the fish back in for a "new" one.. these fish are often relegated to a tank much to small for much to long.. IMO, there are a few fish common to the trade that are really best left in the ocean... A Panther grouper is a good example...
Take my comments with a grain of salt. They aren't meant to deter you. Just kinda give you a bigger picture view..
Best of luck.
