Tank has been up since November and is doing great. 38g three fish and just introduced some corals about a month and a half ago. My xenia and trumpet seem to be growing nicely. However, I have one zoa polyp that has not begun to spread at all. I still just have the one polyp. Should I expect more growth than this? Is it lighting? Admittedly I have only on sun Kronos 38watt led (mix white and blue 65/35) and one t8 blue actinic. I would like the zoa to spread a little quicker and grow? Is anything wrong or is this just the growth rate for Zoas? Not a single extra polyp in a month and a half.

Ummm yes and no. That help? :D

Growth of zoas can vary according to many factors. Lighting, flow, tank inhabitants, type of zoas, age of zoas, etc..

How long have you had it and is it open and healthy?

I've had it for about a month and a half. It is open and seems healthy. I feed it with a dropper and it is definitely eating.

What would I look for- how do these spread? Will Another polyp come of of the "stem" or will it just show up on another part of the rock?

It will show on the base of the zoa..... Like a bump or bud coming from the bottom. Growth rates vary from zoa to zoa but you can typically expect 1-4 polyps a month, sometimes more when the polyps are really settled in.

I've had zoas that don't grow for months especially new ones and from one day to another you get a bunch of babies. Just be patient.

+1

For the most part mine will remain dormant for about the first month. After that they take off and do their thing. I have some that will grow a polyp every day and others that may grow one polyp every month.
