Growth around young, spreading GSP colony

Anybody know if this is something I should be concerned about or if it's just a maturing GSP colony? Started with a very small (1x1cm) piece from a friend 1.5 months ago.

Pictures taken at different times during the day (mid day and sunset as polyps retracted). Thanks!

Mine just did the same thing to the point it was not opening i blew it of with a bastered and now they are open again
 
Definitely a sponge. I’d be more concerned with the GSP growth. You are in it forever if you let those suckers roam free!

Ya i now its my girls tank on a island that and xenia she had to have was not putting it in mine so i set her up a 30g but its my tank to in the long run

They are beautiful but holy cow, they are invasive!
