I just got a small candycane and notices something imbedded in one of the polyps. I looked closer and it pulses all the time. Not sure if this could be a xenia or if they can imbed themselves in other corals. Anyone know what this is or if it is bad? Should I try and removed it (I'm sure I'll destroy the candycane)? Hopefully you can see it in the picture. It is on the right side.

Thanks for your help

I think you need a better photo.

I'd be inclined to leave it alone for now and keep a close eye on it. If it gets worse and causes a bigger issue remove that head (assuming it's a frag with more than one head).

Thanks! I can't really get a better photo, it has very thin frawns. But is actually looks like it is opening and closing, not pulsing. A suggestion from another site thought it might be a fan. It does look like one, I just have never seen one open and close so often, like once every couple of seconds.

Take a photo with whites instead of blues. Could be a jelly larvae, duster, hard to say. Probably isn't harmful if the coral doesn't seem bothered. Just keep an eye on it.

Looks like a feather duster to me. Shouldn’t hurt the coral I wouldn’t imagine. Mine grew over a vermitid snail tube I smashed that was sharp as a razor and it didn’t hurt it
