Tang is currently is currently in QT with CP. Any idea what this is and what treatment should be used?

It's on the tip of his nose. Sorry for the bad pics.

That could easily be lymph. There is no cure for lymph because it's a virus that a lot of fish carry. It usually goes away on it's own but can be a problem if it starts effecting his ability to eat. Otherwise it shouldn't bother him. Feed vitamins and make sure the water in the QT is prestine and that will help it go away faster.... maybe.... should. lol It's like herpes in people- you know like a cold sore

I did have a brief ammonia spike that has been corrected. Maybe that caused the onset? Contagious?

Looks like lymph to me. It's typically harmless but on rare occasions it will grow over the gills or mouth and suffocate or starve the fish. This is not common and lymph is most often seen on fins and face.

Out of curiosity are you treating it when copper while in qt? If so, it seems to increase the frequency of lymph. I believe it is a virus but the symptoms will most likely go away. No big deal. Keep it fed and if it grows over the face I've heard of people scraping it away so they can eat and breathe.

My queen angel had a HORRIBLE case of it 6 months ago her mouth was covered I have no idea how she ate, her gills had a lot as well. I was always just one or two days away from scraping it away but it seemed like each time it got that bad I would come downstairs to a slightly reduced growth area and eventually it just slowly disappeared over the course of a month or so after it peaked. I wondered if she scratched it off or if I got lucky and the large cauliflower looking pieces just disconnected as it receded.

I've had fish affected probably another 20-30 times over the years without even one other close run-in

Yes it's contagious but the vast majority of fish don't show symptoms and honestly it's no big deal. Similar to the herpes virus that creates cold sores in humans I have heard.

I'll throw in my two cents for what it's worth....and it's hard to tell from the photos. First, could it be a simple injury from bumping it's nose/mouth against something? And other then lymph, could it be mouth fungus (a bacterial infection)?

From looking at it closely, it doesn't appear to be fungus. No copper. Only CP. I have some ab if you think that may help.

If mouth fungus, you'll need an antibiotic. With ignorance, my first choice would be Melafix....readily available from your LFS. Maybe the experts can chime in, not sure if it can be used in conjunction with CP.

I'm very confident that this is lymph. vitamins, feed well, low stress and keep the tank very clean and it should go away on its own.

I agree Lymphocystis. Soaking fish food in Selcon, Zoecon or Vita-chem usually does the trick whenever flareups occur.

Lymphocystis:

Symptoms - Lymphocystis appears as a white or beige colored cauliflower-like growth that usually starts on the fins and spines and sometimes spreads to the body. Initially it may be small (looks like ich), and then grows in size (which is how you know it’s not ich). Lympho is a virus that many fish carry for life. Fortunately, it is rarely fatal or even harmful to the fish, and symptoms will come and go.

Treatment options - No known cure or treatment exists. However, feeding vitamin-enriched foods and maintaining pristine water conditions may expedite the “going away” process.

I'm not saying this is the case but my mimic tang tried to eat a blob of superglue I accidentally dropped into the tank and his nose looked just like that. His mouth was also glued shut but it made quick work of that by scraping on the rocks.
Again not saying this is the case, just reminded me of it :) I agree with the others that it's Lymph. I had a koran that would get Lymph anytime it was stressed. Never saw signs of it in any other fish it was housed with.
