Growth on snails

We saw some growth on one of our snails and it appears one has dropped off and looks like a grey and black half clamshell. It seems very aware as it clamps down when we move towards it. Possible type of barnacle?

I see small grey and black is the operculum of another snail that has passed, buy what about the white stuff on the shell?
