Yes. Okay how can i tell if it is death. It still has the whit skin underneath it so is that a good sign

The white is the new growth that has not colored up yet. If your monti is dying, the whole cap will typically start to fade... not just the rim.

Okay I just want to make sure I looked at the white parts and there is no algae growth so I thought it was okay

The faster it grows the wider the white margin on the edges. It look quite happy to me, so just keep on keeping on.
