i was wondering if monitopora confusa is an encrusting coral or a plate like growing coral

The colony I have encrusts, plates, and once it gets to s certsin size it starts putting up nodules, almost pillars really

Same here - it does all those. Below is a pic of my colony.

The taller part of the colony (the "frond" on the back) was part of the original frag. It continued to grow upwards and spread sideways. But the frag continued to encrust over the original frag plug and grew forward (as in a plating coral), and the "frond" on the front is what that has grown to now.

thanks thats cool would u says its a slow grower

I'd say probably "medium". The colony in that pic shows about a year of growth, starting from a 1.5" frag. I don't have a pic of it as a frag, but below is a pic from July of 2009 (7 months of growth). Sorry - bad pic - I was taking a pic of something else and the confusa was in the backgroun, and I just cropped this out.

This is actually a Montipora spongodes. Here is a picture of mine.....graows like a plate with upright structures, then grows another floor like a parking ramp. Has beautiful bright green fluorescent color under actinic lighting!
