Grrrrrrrrrrrrr palythoa grandis !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we set up our 240g a few weeks ago. My cornbred trash mummy eye was on the sand doing OK. We decided to move it up on the rocks for a better view. It was doing fine for a week then BAM, this morning UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I hate waking up to this crap!! It makes want to sell everything and just be done with the hobby My cornbred trash fell into my **** PALYTHOA GRANDIS!! I didn't know those things were so evil!!!!

i didnt know the palythoa grandis can do that to a chalice......i would give it about 6 months before it grows back the skin over the lost flesh.........i had my chalice kill up my deadly kiss favia i got from ianiwane....... it was like an inch of dead skin...3 weeks later and there is skin covering the skeleton now...its very light but at least it started growing over the dead part.....
I do the brightwells dosing so idk if that helps with the process as well....

I didn't think the palythoa grandis could sting that bad either, but apparently I was wrong It should make a full recovery, time will tell. *crosses fingers* It's really upsetting to me that it took forever for it to grow into a decent sized colony only for it to look like complete **** in one night!

I wanted to chuck the piece into the backyard. lol This hobby can be very very very frustrating at times

Wow that sucks I guess some palys are very potent lol I have green hairy mushrooms and theyve killed a few things in my tank but I added some pink and green palys a few weeks ago I put them near some of the mushrooms and like 3 days later that section is cleared of mushrooms thank god lol

I wouldn't blame the paly as much as the chalice for being such a drama queen...

on the up side though, the wounds look very clean, theres still a ton of eyes on the colony, so just some powerfeeding and time and you'll have a happy chalice again.

And yea, half the struggle of the hobby is the delicate side of it, makes one want to set up a leathers and xenia tank at times

I have a very large chalice that's been in my collection for 3 or so years no, just recently a smaller palythoa species jumped from a rock to growing on the chalice. Within days black areas and white stripes started to form, which eventually started to STN. All this was just the palys toxin from growin on / next to it. Once I fragged off the palys the chalice has been recovering but it's another 6 months until it's got all its color back (flesh is back though).

Ouch! I know how frustrating that can be Uggh! The flip side is it will recover in a month or so and continue to grow, the other option is to frag a few pieces off and trade. I use to have the Cornbredtrash Mummy Eye a while back but traded it, I wish I didn't, imho one of the nicest chalices in the hobby, the thing just glows

Should recover fast. Ive noticed when theres damage to the middle, it grows back quick.

That is a bummer, but like others said, at least it is in good enough shape to make a swift recovery. Definitely a lesson to glue/epoxy all corals down (if you like them). I was surprised at the potency of palys too. I had a frag of ECC Hybrid I had set on a shelf a few weeks ago and it got knocked off by the stupid crabs and fell onto a pile of captain america protopalys. It couldn't have been there for more than an hour or two and when I picked it up, it was all stringy goo and skeleton. The Captain wasn't messing around.

It surprisingly healed up fast. After about a week, the flesh grew over the burnt spots on the top. By the 3rd week you could hardly tell it was stung except for the one edge that had the most flesh missing.

I know we should be securing our corals. We've been in the hobby for 7 years now and have never attached the corals to the rock work with epoxy lol....... ah well
