GSP — playing with fire?

Would it be a sin to place this GSP up against a vertical portion of my rockwork? I just feel like it wouldn’t have much potential of taking over because there’s a fortification of zoa and duncan. I just cant see the zoas growing down right?

just don't do it. The gsp will always find a way to take over.
the zoas will grow down.

GSP is a borderline nuisance coral, there are very few conditions it won't grow in. I'd keep it separate so it doesn't smother everything on the rock

It looks good growing on the glass. Also easy to frag and control. It will take over that rock. Palys are even worse. Nice looking tank!

It could grow over your zoas and other corals. Put it on its own island and your good to go and you have a nice bright flowy coral

yes that's a blessing in disguise, trust me you can live without that stuff. I cant keep xenia, tried it 3 separate times.

yes or even mushrooms would look nice there. not necessarily the plaque type of shrooms.

Throw a few shrooms in? *Ricordea Florida play nicely with my Zoas.

Out of all the so called nuisance corals, gsp is my favorite. When I started the hobby everyone says to stay away or they will take over. Then I saw all the reefs with the nice gsp in their back walls and love the look.

Great recommendations and info above. GSP can be great under the right conditions and IMO can help with nutrient issues as well.

It will grow wherever there is light and moderate to high flow. Some strains or GSP are slower spreaders than others. I have it throughout my tank only because I love the flowing polyps. It’s easy to scrap off (and sell!$$$) from glass surfaces with a razor blade.

You can also dictate where it grows by shading out its path with over hangs.

I put gsp on a rock with weed palys, imthe palys stand no chance.

GSP will grow up towards the light and if you place it where it will soon grow and reach other corals, you are playing with fire.
You can stop it by occasionally using a kalk paste on it when it starts getting close, but that's a pain.
Put it against the back wall as others have suggested. I did it once and loved the look.
It won't take over the tank. I have to laugh when I see people post that. I guess maybe if you put some in your tank and never ever looked in the tank again to see how it was growing.
Corals grow and we have to move stuff around, prune others and just remove some. Same with GSP. You have to manage it.
I have a couple larger colonies in my tank. Been there about 8 years.

I'd leave it there, although it doesn't look fully open there. But your whole rock structure will soon be palys and zoas I wouldn't mix gsp with it in case those plays release toxins in chemical warfare against the GSP for real estate.

I have a few frags of it on my back wall waiting for it to overtake the whole wall! Your tank looks sooooo mature it’s awe-inspiring!!
