Hi guys,

My GSP is acting weird suddenly. Normally it won't withdraw like this. Today suddenly it's closed. Is this normal? It's like this for more than an hour. My param all good.

KH - 8
Ca - 430
Mg - 1280
Nitrate/Nitrite/Phosphate - very low
Ammonia - 0

I didn't add anything new, or change anything. Did a water change last week only.

How long have you had it? I just added some GSP last weekend and it seems to be particular when it's open and closed up. I read that it can take a little to adjust.

I have it for more than 2 months now. Normally when I switch on the light within few min the green thing all will come out. Its not new it's growing quite fast. But today it's fully closed

I'm sure it's not because it's new. It dnt open for like 2-3 weeks initially. After that it was growing quite fast. Everyday it will open up

If you say that your nitrates and phosphates are very low, do you mean 0 or just very low. No Coral likes it when they are absolute zero including GSP. When I was at 0 my gsp barely ever came out.

Gsp can also be a coral that will retract for a couple of days for no apparent reason. They can even close up for months at a time without dieing. I wouldn't wory about it unless you notice tissue dieing off.

Any fish in the tank? I have caught my PBT and lawnmower blenny grazing on my GSP at times, which always makes it upset.

I have 2 clown and a yellow Gobi. But they don't normally disturb him.

It's not absolute 0. It's very minimal. Ok I'll wait few more days and monitor

Perhaps watch your clowns and see if one is trying to host the GSP. I had a small Ocellaris clown that liked to host GSP in my last tank. It took a few weeks for the GSP to get used to it.

I agree with Richard_reef, GSP is finicky and will close up for days, then open up again and start acting normal.

Yep I've had gsp close up for no good reason. One would close up the other open. Also mine takes some time after lights on to open. I've seen it take as long as a couple of hours.

I just cut a piece off a bigger colony and glued it to a frag plug. It was open for a week then one day nothing but one polyp was open. That same polyp opened for 3 days straight and then on the 4th day everything was open. GSP likes to play games lol.
