I have a GSP frag in my tank that is randomly deciding it wants to stop growing and all the polyps have sucked themselves in. It has been like this for 2 days - I just changed about 30% water last night. Tried moving it to different spots with varying flow and lights.

Also have a Ricordea & condy anemone are both thriving, so not sure what has caused this issue. TBH I am not real concerned about the frag, I bought it to see if my tank was coral ready. Ricordea & anemone are both probably 2 months old, GSP is a little older.

What risks am I running if I leave the GSP in there in hopes that it will bounce back? Is it an issue to leave a deadish looking GSP frag in a 75g tank? Don't want to upset my other 2 pieces that are happy

They do that sometimes.

Direct the flow over it and not into it and wait few days.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, I have had gsp close up for short periods (while perfectly healthy) and it isn’t really a coral that can easily “melt” away or cause issues IME. Stuff is pretty bulletproof.

My GSP's record sulk stands at 9 days and it was absolutely fine afterwards. I've no idea what upsets it because I have a branching type of GSP right next to it and that never sulks.

Edit: Actually Ratvan seems to have provided a clue!

Ratvan dude that makes sense I’ve noticed a purple slimy spread all around the bottom of frag, maybe polyps retracted, base is spreading, and it’s getting ready to start growing again… thank you everyone for encouragement, going to just leave it alone and hope for the best.

It’s alive, now to decide whether or not it’s a zombie coral and remove it asap. Need a coral sized microphone to listen for coral zombie grunts.
