I've recently started seeing strange growth patterns in the gsp. Instead of encrusting its growing up like lobes and branches. I just read about branching gsp, is that what my gsp is doing?

It is branching. Mine does it. Just be careful if the desire is to not have it jump rocks and spread. If it does, just cut and trim as needed, otherwise I personally enjoy it all. Happy reefing.

Thanks its away from the main structure for that reason. Hmm it makes it easier to jump thanks for the heads up.It is branching. Mine does it. I just got a piece from my LFS. I did not realize there was a branching variety. So to be clear there are 2 different varieties? An encrusting and a branching? And my second question is I have a branch. The polyps are all the way around the frag I have. I glued the base to a rock but it is laying down so there are polyp laying on the rock. What will happen with those?

After finding this thread yesterday I did more research and discovered that the branching variety is indeed a thing. Although maybe still debated. Anyway I popped mine off the rock and glued it upright now so hopefully it will keep branching. The part that way lying on the rock it looks like the polyps went away and it started to attach itself to the rock. Crazy stuff!
