Make me understand why the easiest coral on the planet, green star polyp, is not opening for me?...lol. I went to my LFS and noticed they had a few for sale, with well extended polyps under actnic. So I said why not I haven't had one in a tank in some years. Long story short after I acclimated it I got one day of opening from it as it was at the bottom of the tank ...then no more than a few polyps days later. Water quality parameters as of today:
DKH 8.5
Ca2: 460
Nitrate: 10ppm
PH: 8
Temp: 78
Any advice is greatly welcomed!

Depending on how long it's been in your tank, they can take weeks to fully open. Ours will close for days at a time. I wouldn't be to concerened.

Is it in high flow? Is there any visible algae growing on it?

Mine will do that as well. In fact it's been closed all week.

I've had it for 4 years or so and every so often it just closes up. All other tank inhabitants are fine just gsp won't open. Then one day it will just be open again, no rhyme or reason as far as i can tell.

If everything else is good, I wouldn't worry.

Mine opened up just fine, I have had it for almost two months and it has not grown at all. That is until last week I stuck it right in front of the return nozzle and now it is already almost off the plug. Crazy how flow can change everything.
