Hi all,

I have a 170 litre tank and wanted to get some GSP in my tank and isolate it on a rock. I know people say it completely takes over tanks but if on a single rock will it spread?
Is there a distance it must be kept from other rocks?

In my experience it'll start growing in a mat on the sandbed after it fills the rock... just trim the mat back before it reaches another rock

It will grow on your glass substrate. Pick a spot and cut it back every so often or sell it.

It is an absolutely wonderful coral that needs special care and attention so that like you said it doesn't take over the tank. As simple as that...

I love GSP, but it can grow out of control. It can also grow on your glass and I have seen it grow across my sand bed before. It's different for different people. Some people say it's indestructible while other people have killed it while trying to keep it alive... I've killed it twice.

GSP was our first coral. Got a rock covered in it from a coworker they had sitting in their sump. It's one of the bright moving pieces in our display and our clown fish host in it. Hasn't managed to get off the rock island it's been isolated on since we started up the tank almost 2 years ago. It will grow over itself in mats so an occasional trim doesn't hurt but so long as it's got 2-3" between itself and another solid surface it should stay where you put it. In our experience it doesn't crawl over the sand bed.

It tends to grow up and across the sand.

Its one of the first corals people see when they look at my tanks. It provides excellent movement. Invesion a wind swept green field. As the grass moves in the wind thats gsp in a tank. Thats the best I can do to describe its movement.

Ever seen lava spread lol
