GSP Issues

Hi All, I have a GSP piece that had been growing nicely around the rock. However the polyps have been retracted for the past ~3 weeks and I noticed that the algae on the rock has spread to part of the base (dark green) but also there are these neon green wispy stuff on it as well. Any idea what this is, how to fix / what I should do?

How old is the tank? I would use a turkey baister and try to blow it off your coral. Does the GSP have access to your main structure or is it isolated?

Tank is about 3.5 months old. I have been using a turkey baster almost every day, what you see there is the remnants of what sticks to the coral after basting.

GSP is isolated on the rock in the picture. I've also noticed growth around the rock despite the polyps being fully contracted. Only think I would add is that it is basically under my autofeeder and the cleaner shrimp probably bothers it quite a bit. Also want to make sure that the bright green stuff on it isn't bad..

Sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Ugly phase is probably starting up.

+1 to what jekyl said. Also, might be your nutrients are too low. Hard to say since API tests aren't the most accurate. But gsp tends to like water that's a little dirty with some nitrates and phosphates.
