My tank recently went from 5 PPM Nitrates to 30 PPM. The GSP then closed I did water change 2 and reduced food intake by 33%. My Nitrates are now at 25 PPM. Should I continue the slow drop in Nitrates or should i be more proactive. The GSP is starting to open but is not full and extended.

Try to drop it down faster from at most 10-15 and then maybe a slower drop from there. You dont want to shock everything, but at that level itll hurt them more to keep it that high.

Do you know what caused the nutrient spike? GSP are pretty bulletproof, I wouldn't be to worried, just continue to do a series of water changes to bring those nutrient levels back down to where you want them.

Yes I had a Goniopora die real fast I didn't remove it because their were a few colonies alive. The Nitrate and Ammonia really spiked it has started down now about 2 weeks in loweing the numbers. I guess the bacteria had to catch up. Thank you for the Reply

If gsp get a lot of crap building up on them they will not be happy. Try blowing the gsp off if a lot of crap comes off that might be part of why they are not happy

I just checked my ammonia a little bit .10 it has come down slowly. I blow the GSP off with a turkey baster every few days at night when the GSP has retacted. I also use a toothbrush to brush off stuborn algae every few weeks if it appears.
