I am confused as to where to put my GSP coral. Is it ok on the top with the pump directly on it? Also, when should it open? It did a few minutes yesterday and then went back inside

May take a day or 2 for it to acclimate. How old is the tank? And what are your water parameters?
It is a brand new tank. It got done cycling on Wednesday. Salinity is 1.024, ammonia, 0 PPM, Nitrite is 0 PPM and Nitrate is between 0 PPM to 5 PPM

GSP can take days to open up. Once it does, it grows fast. It will eventually cover everything. If that’s a concern for you, I’d suggest isolating it on a rock. As far as ideal placement in terms of light and flow, it’s not really that critical. It will grow just about anywhere.

Ok. :) I grew attached to it, so I want to make sure I do right by it, lol

It looks great when it thrives but.... it does spread like crazy, smothering other corals. I have been slowly ripping it out of my tank..... for me its more like GHA

Follow up question. When can I take it off the plug?

I would not put GSP in there at all. It is a vile weed that will take over that entire structure.

It’s easier to keep the plug, because it’s easier to glue down. Unless it has a small rock they used to attach it to the plug in the first place.

It will come out in a few days. I love GSP. it feels like grass and I love how it flows. Try putting it on something that it can climb, like the back wall. That way, the rest of the aquascape can pop color in the foreground.

Stick the plug in the sand. That way you can easily remove it to trim back to size. Otherwise, as others have said, it will take over that rock structure in no time. 20210109_185434.jpg
