Hello all! I know in the past there’s been some questions asked about GSP stinging other corals. However, this has been a constant problem for me, when it comes to placing corals in this specific location. First was a small white toadstool, then some Pom Pom Xenia. And now a devil’s hand. It’s always the same thing, at night the coral bends down, touching the GSP and gradually sting themselves until they start to bleach at the contact points and I move them. This tank is a 20 gallon with only softies, I run activated carbon to mitigate any chemical warfare. And it’s been set up for well over a year now. Any of the other previously mentioned corals I’ve moved to different locations are thriving! Just wondering if anyone has had experience with something similar or if I have mutant GSP‍

gsp will sting. Its not a Mike Tyson knockout, but if a coral is rubbing against it daily, the slow stinging will cause damage over time.
Actually they don't posses stinging tentacles so it's probably just irritating corals by rubbing them.

Stinging isn't a concern but it will over take any other coral that gets in its way. If part of your main structure I'd get rid of it immediately.

Thanks Lavey29 and sorry to the OP for giving the wrong answer
I like the look of GSP waving back and forth in the current but it think sometimes it overwhelmes corals like GHA. Maybe it has some chemical reaction that irritates corals kind of like leathers with turpenes but from what I've read it can't sting. I was really considering it for my back wall so did a lot of research on it.

I believe they don’t sting, but I do think they irritate other corals somehow. It’s the only coral I’ve ever had any “aggression” from.

That’s kinda what I was thinking too. Everyone talks about how fast it grows, but I have more of a problem with it’s aggravating everything else

I decided to just take out the main rock and scrape it off. It’s not worth the headache. Now I’ll have some space for some other leathers!
