GSP that isn’t green.

Probably was a mistake, but I purchased a frag of GSP from my crappy LFS. The GSP had zero green on it whatsoever. The polyps are a creamy tan color. The polyps come out and look full and gorgeous. It’s been in my tank about a week and I haven’t noticed much change. Will it ever turn back to green? I have zoa’s and a trumpet coral that are doing just fine, all levels are where they should be.

My first GSP isn’t the most green either. But I got another frag that is bright neon. Might just be the strain?

The LFS said that it could’ve come from a tank with low iodine and that could be the reason. But I’ve read a lot online that dosing iodine is completely pointless. Tempted to just trash it.

I’m in the same boat. My GSP is the same color as yours! I’ve read online that it can come in different colors including tan...

I don’t dose iodine. I hope you’re not saying trash the coral...maybe try dosing with koral color by Brightwell Aquatics. Or go to another LFS and see if they’ll do a trade?

Do you have blue lights? Mine are brownish under white light and green under blue light.

I saw you read about Iodine and was going to suggest it since mine got electric green after dosing Iodine BUT! It already has nice green to it the Iodine just made it pop more and some of my sps.

It's just different variants of it. Yours might color up a little but it won't turn into a crazy electric neon green type. They should be pretty common to find a brightly colored one however for cheap.

Check your local reef club. I like to trade, but if I were to sell my bright neon green GSP frags, I’d sell 2x2 inch frags for $10.

My LFS has three different types of GSP. One bright green and two that are less so with the one being like a silverish green. I bought a frag of the bright green. He pulled it right off the colony for me. In my tank though with T5s, it isn't as green as in the store. I think it's partly because I moved it and it's acclimating, partly because of the different lights and different PAR it's in now. Anyway, it's probably the strain you got, but could be the lights you have too.

It "IS" a star polyp.
It "IS NOT" a Green Star Polyp.

Petsmart sells these polyps all the time.

I had green star polyps that went from green to brown at one point in time. I began adding Lugol's monthly and they turn bright green afterward. Anyone that says dosing iodine is pointless is also misinformed, in my opinion

I'd bet you could get those suckers to turn green!

probably too much zooxanthellae then, if it went green to brown

It's an iodine solution you can dose. Potassium iodide (KI) and and iodine in water. GSP in my tank loved it, and the other softies seemed to do well with it also.
