Hey all,

So I've purchased alottt of coral and my first nem for my clown pair, I've found a real nice rock for the gsp but it's one of the main big rocks I'm going to place it at the bottom of the rock and let it grow up it. But I want other corals on the same rock too and I've heard the gsp grow like mad. So I was thinking where I want to put my anemone (if it stays there) when the gsp gets too close to the nem will it sting it but not kill it and will keep it at bay? Or if I put my torch or another stinging coral will it control where the gsp can grow without killing the collony?

Also will an anemone kill euphilia corals? Or are they tolarent towards each other as far as stinging goes? So could I place a torch or hammer next to the nem?

Ive had my tank 7 months with 1 or 2 corals that died due to insufficient light but I have got a nice ai prime for it (60cm by 60cm by 60cm cube) so ive read at that size of tank the light could even grow sps which I hope to get into and I have my eye on a gold torch but they run £250 upwards where I live.

So yeah basically can I put torches and other stinging corals next to an anemone and be OK and the above question about the gsp.

Oh I have quite a large sand grain so I k ow it can grow on there too but if I just suround it with corals that will sting it can i control where it will grow too?

Thanks so much

Your GSP will grow anywhere given the right conditions. Anemone's will sting everything, in terms of warfare they are top trumps.
You can't guarantee where an anemone will settle, or whether it stays there permanently or not.
I have everything in my tank from GSP through to SPS with BTA's, might be worth a look.

My advice would be to give the anemone's some rocks with crevices, give your GSP rocks on the sand bed to grow on and keep you LPS in an area away from the GSP and anemone's.

Okay thanks, do u think the ai prime is strong enough for sps? Like birds nest and montipori cap

I don't have any experience with these lights myself, butY I would have thought so. Whereabouts are you?
Scotland in the UK, they where the best cheapest lights I could find at £260. I'm only 17 so buying £400 plus lights are out of the question lol... I just had to save to get the best light for my budget I possibly could. And I've orderd corals online for the first time and they come on Wednesday so looking forward to that. I only orderd as I want my clowns to have an anemone and got some corals too, might post a pic once they arrive. But yeah I just want to keep the corals happy n healthy

They say AI primes will grow SPS but I find that hard to believe unless they are in the top 1/3 of your tank. I have 2 of them on my 65 gal tank and running blues, violet, and UV maxed out and whites on 30% the highest par I have is 146 at about 12" below water surface.

I used a prime for my 30cm cube tank.
It grew corals and GSP fine.

however on a 60cm cube, I think you will have problems unfortunately. Are you still able to return the light?

maybe a black box would be better. BRS just did an updated review and you probably can get something that will put out more PAR and better spread for your tank at the same price

You have to run them at a very high percent, with all channels running, and only keep stuff in the top. They just not a good choice for an SPS tank.

OP - if you want to grow sps - and are short on money - you're much better off foregoing some of the controllability of the primes, and buying one of the better chinese black boxes.

(or looking for used lights)

Well thats kinda what I was getting at. Unless your running your white channel way higher then what I would say is recommendable it's just not very practical they make that claim. It's very misleading hence why I have them lol. I'm sure they can grow SPS but in turn they will be growing algae even better. Im not turning my white channel up that high, I'll keep just softies and LPS until I can upgrade lights.

OP- If you wanna grow SPS and can return your AI I would suggest doing that and buying a vipraspectra black box from Amazon or something. Will be cheaper than the AI too

I have a 60 litre which I believe is 15g? I'm not too sure with American gallons to UK litres lol

60 litre? Didnt you say it was 60cm cube? That would basically be the equivalent of a 24in cube which is roughly 60 us gallons thats why I gave you my 65 gallon tank as an example. Sorry but if its only 15gal it should be more than enough. I hate using standard measurements lol we should of kept metric to keep everything equivalent.

Yeah sorry as I said 60cm all round, so if that's 60 us gallons then that's what it is lol I don't know why we use different units of measurements lol

But for softies and lps would be sufficient? As I said for sps I only want plate coral as I think it looks great (montipori cap) and maybe birds nest so the easiest sps u get. But lps and softies it will do good?

Yes US based and Europe adopted the metric system ages ago whereas Britain adopted the metric system partially, probably to be different to the rest of Europe. One example of imperial measurement is the use of miles rather than kilometres.

yes, they are US, but amazon is worldwide and my guess is that the black boxes they review will be available where you are, but that’s just a guess on my part.
I’m wishing you good luck!

Do you mean 3.75 L = 1 USG
It takes more liters to make a gallon.

Thanking you, yeah I'll try the ai prime and see how it goes, I don't plan on getting sps for a while just want to master softies and lps first. Want a nice colourful tank and nice flow to corals to start.
