Ive not really payed much attention before but ive just notice that my gsp has a white mat whereas all the gsps ive seen online have purple mats, is there different types of gsp? Also all the other gsps ive seen have long fingers (not sure of the correct term and) and been told they grow very quickly, mines been in there about 2 months and it has got no bigger or bedded onto the rock at all

The reason I asked is that the tentacles looked a bit plump for GSP. I just saw that worldwidecorals has a White Center GSP, maybe.

What are your nitrates at?

Yep, by that picture it's definitely GSP. I'd agree with reef lover. After I trimmed mine back I took the trimmings and positioned them about an inch from the surface where the PAR is around 600 to 700 at its peak. Those pieces grow much slower and the mat is lighter. (Never paid much attention to it until now. )

My experience is similar. If your params are even close to being good and your GSP has polyps out, light could be the reason. Your GSP seems to be doing well so small adjustments IMO.
