It means you haven't owned GSP for any length of time. If you were closer I'd give you sheets of the stuff!

Maybe it means you have the same luck with gsp that I do. I can not grow that stuff or zoa. They just wither and die. I don't know what as lps and few sps all grow good. Ive tried it twice with no luck.
I have some that grows but my zoas don’t I’ve had those a while and still mini no extra heads

In your op pic that looks different than the gsp I've seen... They look like cloves almost... Doesn't explain not opening.. Do you have some detectable nutrients for them (zoas + gsp) to use?
Detectable nutrients.. please explain

Well in my system I noticed gsp and zoas took off letting the water get a little "dirty". I slowed way down on wc and my gsp is like wildfire atm and new zoa heads almost daily it seems. My no3 is around 25 and po4 is 0.2...

I was told they prefer dirty water so no water changes? Can I still change filter sock

The wc schedule is gonna have to be your call based on how things look and your tests. Fwiw I go more often by how things look :) only recently started testing regularly to see patterns etc and so far those numbers are stable... I don't necessarily think no wc change is good for every stage of a tank but that's just my opinion..

elevate off the sand and place in area with good to medium flow and moderate lighting

I like this

Recently I had an issue where I brought a sample to my LFS and he read my salinity at 1.020 after I checked before j left the house and it was 1.025 so he said all my levels were off. I checked my calcium and couldn’t get an accurate reading using salifert. I don’t want to say inaccurate because maybe it was user error. Anyways

so he said go home and buy the purple instant and do a 10% then the following week do the same but put the difference in salt. Since I was reading with my refractometer at 1.025 and his at 1.020 I would add the difference to make mine go down. Fine. Did it.
He has a Hannah salinity tester
I buy a hydrometer just for sh*ts and giggles and test mine before I bring it back…. My levels on refract is 1.030 and on my hydrometer is also 1.030

I bring the same his is 1.020 AGAIN! There’s no way it’s me. So he doesn’t test anything else because he says it will all be off..

moral of story …. That really confused me and put me in a fish funk

Keep that in the back of your head next time you do ANYTHING with that LFS. Most are only as good as their employees and even that sometimes is questionable.

As long as you have 2 exact readings go with that & don't be afraid to ask here on R2R

Ahh I think I remember this post. I think it's his hannah checker needs to be calibrated or batteries changed or something...hydrometer won't lie.

I use salifert for ca and I don't see how it ever can be accurate because one of the steps is to use that little dumb scooper and how do you accurately get the same scoop every time. I try obv... It does however give you an idea of changes over a period of time so for that it serves its purpose...not ready to drop a small fortune on better testing...yet
