Guidance before this gets out of control.

FirstIy, i am beginning to get a bit of, what looks Cyano in my fuge. luckily it hasn't made its way up the to the DT yet. i have manually removed it several times and added alot more flow to that section of the sump but is still finding a way to raise its ugly head. I'm also having trouble getting my chaeto to grow, but that's another story. I am using a AI Fuge light at 20 on every channel.
i don't really understand what conditions determine where this stuff grows. Im thinking it must be related to the light. Should i be worried about this or just let it go? i was planing to try chemiclean in the coming weeks.

Next i'm also getting a bit of algae of my rock work. very short and fluffy looking. Asteria and turbos not really interested, my tangs do a little bit but not enough to keep on top of it. looking for an ID so i can come up with a plan on how to manage it. i was planning on doing a bit manual scrub of the rocks.

tank is 8 months old,started with dry rock and DR tims. no other bacteria supplementation or live rock added.
a couple of tester corals added recently. 8 fish, 5x2x2
feed NLS, red and green nori, mysis, spirulina brine.
As per tanks parameters, phos is 0.04 and has been stable since before the algea turned up, nitrate is between 1-3 depending on when i did my last WC.

Haha well I would much rather your problem at the moment. At least I would know it was the chaeto consuming the nutrients and not algae.

Mine is covered in cyano which makes little sense because I have pretty high flow through there and don’t run chaeto

1st, I think your nitrate is too low for your chaeto to grow. Chaeto also needs other nutrients to grow. Without getting an icp test it would be impossible to know which it's lacking, could be as simple as adding some iron for example.

I wouldn't be too concerned with the cyano at this point. I think I have a small amount of cyano in my fuge for the last 6mo, its never spread or turned up in my display.

Interesting, after doing some research it seems rather common that cyano grows in fuges with chaeto. Much be related to the light spectrum used, as the water chemistry is identical to the DT obviously.
I agree, I just can seem to get nitrate up though. I don't have excessive amounts of biomedia and I am only doing a 15% WC ever 10 days or so. I could start feeding more but I also don't want do send phosphates through the roof and deal with a massive algae outbreak. I have just started adding a little Continuum Chaeto Grow supplement just to ensure there is amble iron and trace elements for the chaeto.
